COLUMBUS ACCESSIBLE COTTAGE

Promoting Sustainable Housing
Our work simply corresponds with real life. We believe that Universal Design is a part of the Sustainability conversation. We can STOP REACTING AND START PLANNING to be sustainable long-term with the places in which we live. Aging in place is a desire for many; a concept that is discussed far too late in our process of living and purchasing real estate. Thoughtful purchases and remodels of existing homes, or when building new... strategic design on the front-end can last us a lifetime!

5 ACCESSIBLE BUILDING & REMODELING STRATEGIES FOR MORE SUSTAINABILITY:
-
Age in place
-
Heal in at home after injury, surgery, replacements: both planned or emergent
-
Allow friends & family to Visit to accommodate THEIR mobilities
-
Increase the value of our real estate investments
-
Create spaces that are inclusive & comfortable (also for cognitive and sensory considerations)

Grandparents Haven
So it has arrived, the time in which our parents need more hands-on attention and a home with solid surface flooring, a roll-in shower and a safer kitchen to navigate.

We added a concrete ramp and railing up to the front door, lowered kitchen cabinetry for easy access, among other features they can enjoy for years to come.

THE COTTAGE
The Columbus Accessible Cottage was originally designed as a visitable and accessible annex for our family. But through sharing the design concepts with members of the public, the word spread and inquiries came in regarding sharing the property with those in need. There are many rentals in Columbus, but very few that offer this thoughtful design that caters to so many for so many reasons
